Bishop Hans Herr 1639-1725

Meet Bishop Hans Herr, my 10th great-grandfather. He arrived in 1710 in Lancaster County, PA along with a number of other Swiss Mennonite immigrants. They negotiated the acquisition of 10,000 acres of land from William Penn, and these families became the foundation of further Mennonite families arriving, intermarrying, and thriving. More to come.....

Current Research Underway

Can you help with these?

Winkler: Who are the parents of Frederick Winkler (1828-1920)? Henderson: Who are the parents of William Henderson (1812-1900) from Dover, Ohio? Knodle: Who are the parents of William Knodle (1785-1851) of Washington County, MD?

The Amish/Mennonite connection

Ongoing research shows significant connections to early immigrants from Switzerland, members of the Anabaptist/Amish/Mennonite communities. Later connections to Ohio and Indiana and the Bretheren Church are surfacing. Surnames being researched include: Kauffman, Weaver, Cripe, Ulrley, Amstutz, Yoder, Miller, Mikesell and Hochstetler.

More about the Knodle Family

Civil War Family

William Knodle (1806-1883) and five of his sons all fought in the Civil War. All but one returned home, and one (1st Lt. Josiah Knodle) served in the 51st U.S. Colored Infantry. Pictured here is Pvt. Isaac Knodle, killed at the Battle of Vicksburg.

A family of Nurses

Under the tab "Media" above, click on "Nurses" to see a list and photos of some of the nurses in our family through the decades.

It's great to have documentation!

From a family collection - actual minutes of Knodle reunions from 1929-1937. Am in search of living relatives who may have copies of subsequent reunions.
